Can your kitchen ‘handle’ it?

Oct 10, 2017 ALL KITCHENS

When renovating or designing a new kitchen, a main design consideration is whether you want to implement handles or not.  Many questions come to mind:

  • Do you want clean lines on your cabinetry or the traditional handle?
  • Is it easier to clean without handles?
  • What colour handle would I prefer?
  • What type of handle would suit my new kitchen style?
  • Do I have the same handles for the cupboards and the drawers?
  • What size handle should I use?

A Black Trend

A very popular trend is the emergence of the black handle.  Black comes in many styles to suit any style kitchen and in the right balance can look extremely trendy and elegant.  We have seen many black handles compliment the white shaker door in new kitchens.

So, if black is your thing, have a look here.

Handles can be a very decorative touch to compliment your kitchen cabinetry.  Popular handles for the Provincial style kitchen include: black, copper look, ceramic and metal; in knobs, shell or cup shaped and ornate twisted style handles.

There are many industrial and earthy tones and finishes now available that give the feel of the outdoors coming indoors; from raw concrete to timber finishes and matt metals.  When planning to compliment the earthy tones, think brushed brass, copper, carbon or pewter.  These can have a simple yet elegant impact.

If your kitchen has a modern high gloss look, you can be very creative with your contrasting handle or opt for the ‘no handles at all’ look.  Or if handles are a must have item, then think matt black or matt chrome to add a very elegant finish to your dream kitchen.

Clean look – no handles

Many of our clients prefer to have a ‘clean’ look to their cabinetry by not having handles at all.  Instead of handles, the choice is usually recessed finger pulls.  Finger pulls can be aluminium or a colour to match your cabinetry.
